The Cosmological Despair

Iker GS The sensation I get with this LP is that there is no point in Cosmology. There are not laws governing the Cosmos, at least not laws that humans can comprehend or even discern.
So, this feels to me more like an existential album than anything else.
There's tension in this music yet it does not suffocate you. It's weird and alien yet you can relate to its basic forms. Makes you feel a vacuum yet it succeeds in keeping your interest and fascinate you.
It's a damn fine album.

solemnland You will want to hold on for this journey.
Lars Haur has created and given to us an album that serves as a travelogue, both physical and psychological. Each piece provides signposts along the way - be they cautionary or simply frightening - and contribute to the feeling of foreboding but, to this listener at least, suggest too a future not absolutely fated. This is a strong and compelling release that I would include in a list of finest recordings of the past year.
Recommended. Favorite track: Hades Surges on the Shores of Paradise.

Steven Senger The parting track on this album is such a sweet summary of and serenade to the album that you've just heard. I can hear flavors of what came before, but playing upon one another in different contexts. To me, this track really pulls the work together as a whole, in a dreamy but not dormant way. Favorite track: Falling Backwards Into a Soulless Void.

about

Anticipating Nowhere is incredibly proud and excited to release a new album from Lars called ‘The Cosmological Despair’, an album which is a combination of his love of philosophy/theology and science fiction/horror. As the title of the album this is a deeply reflective album of which Lars says:

‘I find there to be a sense of despair when we as a people look into the heavens and wonder what is truly out there. That despair comes from the fact that we know we will never really find out in our lifetimes and we can only hope that when our descendants make their way out there, that things don’t go horribly wrong even though we feel that they will. I find this theme in a lot of great sci-fi movies and games that include horror elements such as Alien, Prometheus, and Event Horizon (one of my absolute favorites). It seems to be our lust for knowledge, resources, and expansion that draw us towards these places only for us to be blindsided by things we couldn’t have predicted to even exist. And that is kind of the theme of this album.'

However, this album is not just about despair. It tells its own compelling tale through Lars’ evocative use of sounds and textures – creating that sense of the vastness of the universe and acting as a gateway and aid for our contemplation of space, both inner- and outer.
